Following their 1973 opus Band on the Run, Paul McCartney & Wings positioned Venus and Mars as another peak of the group's creative and commercial heyday. It was released on May 27, 1975, ahead of the legendary Wings Over the World tour. Preceded by the US Number One single “Listen To What The Man Said” and featuring “Letting Go,” a fan favorite in McCartney's live set to this day, Venus and Mars hit Number One in the album charts on both sides of the Atlantic and went on to sell over 4 million copies worldwide.
This special 50th-anniversary vinyl edition was cut at half speed using a high-resolution transfer of the original master tapes from 1975 by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios. The album is presented as a meticulous reproduction of the original UK pressing, with recreations of the original “Venus and Mars are alright tonight” circular sticker and “comparative sizes of sun and planets” bookmark sticker and comes with two posters with photography by Aubrey Powell and Sylvia de Swaan. The album artwork by Hipgnosis has been meticulously recreated and presented in a gatefold sleeve.
Venus and Mars will also be available in Dolby Atmos for the first time, newly mixed by Giles Martin and Steve Orchard.
Less than one year after Band on the Run’s release, the first recording sessions for Venus and Mars took place in November 1974 and featured a revamped Wings line-up. Following the departure of Denny Seiwell and Henry McCullough on the eve of the Band on the Run sessions in Lagos, Paul and Linda McCartney, along with Denny Laine, were now joined by guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and drummer Geoff Britton. After recording “Letting Go,” “Medicine Jar,” and “Love In Song” at Abbey Road Studios, Wings left London for New Orleans’ Sea Saint Studios, facing another unexpected line-up shift with Geoff Britton’s exit, recruiting Joe English to complete the album.
In tandem with Venus and Mars topping the charts worldwide, the album’s predecessor, Band on the Run, continued building its global multi-platinum popularity. With a powerful new line-up solidified, Wings’ response to the overwhelming demand surrounding them was to launch the Wings Over the World tour, a 65-date run of shows starting in 1975 and stretching into October 1976.
The first Wings reissue for 2025, Venus and Mars follows 2024’s theatrical release of the rare Wings live-in-studio performance film One Hand Clapping and its accompanying album landing in the Best of 2024 lists of Billboard, Uproxx and the Los Angeles Times, as well as last year’s 50th-anniversary edition of Band on the Run. More exciting celebratory Wings’ activities and announcements are soon set to follow.
Steven Wilson has announced the North American leg of The
Overview Tour – his first full-band solo headline run in the US and Canada
in over seven years. Dates get underway for the Live Nation produced run
starting September 9 at The Masonic in San Francisco and continue through
mid-October. Highlights include shows at such historic venues as The Wiltern on Los
Angeles (September 10), Danforth Music Hall in Toronto (September 22), MTELUS in
Montreal (September 25), and Brooklyn Paramount in Brooklyn (October 2). Presales
begin tomorrow (January 28) at 10:00 am (local) while on-sales start Friday,
January 31 at 10:00 am (local). For complete details and ticket information,
please visit stevenwilsonhq.com/tour-dates.
The Overview Tour celebrates the upcoming release what may
well be the most audacious work of Wilson’s already visionary career. The
Overview arrives via Fiction Records in a wide range of formats – including
digital, CD, LP, Blu-ray, D2C exclusive boxset, D2C exclusive red vinyl LP
(with poster), and retail exclusive mint color LP – on Friday, March 14.
Written, produced, and mixed by Wilson at his home studio
between December 2023 and August 2024, The Overview sees the world-renowned
artist once again expanding the parameters of progressive music, a genre he has
long helped redefine through both his groundbreaking solo career and landmark
work with Porcupine Tree. The 42-minute collection is comprised of just two
epic tracks, “Objects Outlive Us” and “The Overview,” each made up of
distinctive musical sections that flow from one to the next, playing out as
unique and continuous pieces. Once again, Wilson’s resolutely expansive music
incorporates everything from glistening electronics to post-rock and beyond,
pushing forward the singular sound and vision that has long defined his wildly
ambitious body of work for more than three decades.
“The Overview is a 42-minute long journey based on the
reported ‘overview effect,’” says Steven Wilson, “whereby astronauts seeing the
Earth from space undergo a transformative cognitive shift, most often
experiencing an overwhelming appreciation and perception of beauty, and an
increased sense of connection to other people and the Earth as a whole.
However, not all experiences are positive; some see the Earth truly for what it
is, insignificant and lost in the vastness of space, and the human race as a
troubled species. As a reflection of that, the album presents images and
stories of life on Earth, both good and bad.”
Although initially conceived as a solo recording, The
Overview sees Wilson backed by frequent collaborators Craig Blundell (drums),
Adam Holzman (keyboards), and Randy McStine (guitars), alongside lyrics from
XTC’s Andy Partridge that help form the story that drives “Objects Outlive Us.”
Consistent with Wilson’s illustrious reputation, The Overview will be presented
as a true audiophile experience, with spatial/Atmos audio versions available
both physically and digitally; vinyl editions of The Overview have been
specifically mastered at half-speed at London’s Abbey Road by engineer Miles Showell (The Beatles, ABBA, The Police).
Wilson will mark the arrival of The Overview with the
wide-ranging EU/UK legs of The Overview Tour, including four shows at the
historic London Palladium in London, England (May 12-13, 19-20) and a
three-night stand at Paris, France’s famed Salle Playel. In addition, The
Overview will be accompanied by a full-length film directed by Wilson’s
longtime visual collaborator Miles Skarin. Both the film and the album will be
officially unveiled with a world premiere event and exclusive Q&A session
taking place on Tuesday, February 25 on Britain’s largest cinema screen,
London’s BFI IMAX. Tickets for the premiere event are on sale now.

Dave Mason, songwriter, singer, guitarist, a founding member of Traffic and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has announced his 21st solo album called A Shade of Blues, available on March 21. With a career spanning over six decades, Mason delves deep into his blues roots on this electrifying collection. Over a decade in the making, this blues-infused record showcases Mason's artistry and collaborative spirit. The album features an impressive lineup of guest artists, including Joe Bonamassa, Michael McDonald, Mike Finnigan, Warren Hill, and more. A Shade of Blues also sets the stage for Mason's highly anticipated 2025 tour, celebrating over five decades of electrifying performances and sold-out shows worldwide.
Blues has been a cornerstone of Mason’s music since his earliest days with Traffic, where he performed alongside Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and Chris Wood. From penning timeless classics like "Feelin’ Alright" and "Only You Know and I Know" to collaborating with legends such as Jimi Hendrix ("All Along the Watchtower," "Crosstown Traffic") and The Rolling Stones ("Street Fighting Man"), Mason’s contributions to music are unparalleled.
Now, with A Shade of Blues, Mason leans further into the genre that influenced him from the start, offering 11 tracks that showcase a wide range of blues and R&B styles. The album will be released on his own Barham Productions label.
“My guitar playing has always drawn from the blues,” Mason explains. “This album leans a little more heavily into that style, but not entirely — that’s why I call it A Shade of Blues.”
Recorded with a mix of old friends and new collaborators, the album features standout moments like the traditional eight-bar blues of "Use It, Or Lose It" (set for single release on February 21st) —featuring guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa — and a raw, impromptu jam on Elmore James and Robert Johnson’s "Dust My Blues."
“I wanted to find new ways to approach these songs,” Mason says, pointing to his fresh, minor-key take on “Dear Mr. Fantasy.” “I’ve always enjoyed reinterpreting the music that’s shaped my career.”
Check out “Dear Mr. Fantasy” with Joe Bonamassa below.
The album also includes "It’s Just You And Me," with Michael McDonald on harmony vocals, piano, and organ, and a fiery rendition of "Born Under A Bad Sign," a tribute to Albert King, one of Jimi Hendrix’s favorite guitarists.
Mason reflects on the influence of American blues on his music: “In England, we didn’t have segregated radio. We grew up listening to everything — jazz, soul, R&B, country. The blues is simple music, but it’s the feel that’s kept it alive for so long.”
A Shade of Blues stands as a testament to both the enduring power of the blues and Mason’s unwavering artistry. At 78, he continues to perform with his band, Dave Mason’s Traffic Jam, sharing his music with the next generation.
“I can’t just sit around doing nothing,” the 78-year-old laughed. “I still love playing guitar, I love being out on tour. I just want to keep this music alive for new generations.”
With A Shade of Blues, Dave Mason once again proves that by continuing to use it, you’ll never lose it.
A Shade of Blues will be available on March 21 on all streaming platforms, CD and vinyl.
After taking some time off in late 2024 to address some serious health issues, Mason is rested and recuperated and is now ready to resume his touring duties! Current itinerary is below with more dates to be announced.

In 1979, Supertramp became one of the biggest bands in the world, following the release and extensive accompanying tour for their biggest album Breakfast In America. The complete set at the 8,000-seat Pavillon de Paris in December of that year, on the third of four sold-out nights, will be released as Live In Paris ‘79 on 3LP and 2CD.
Recorded on December 1 and 2, 1979, the classic lineup of members Rick Davies (singer-songwriter-keyboardist) and Roger Hodgson (singer-songwriter-guitarist-keyboardist) with John Helliwell on sax, woodwinds, vocals and keyboards and a rock-steady rhythm section of bassist Dougie Thomson and drummer Bob Siebenberg capturing Supertramp performing at the peak of their career.
Unlike the previously released 1980 Paris live album, featuring selections from earlier shows of this Paris run, the triple LP and double CD features the complete Supertramp show from the tour, compiled from recordings during the two December shows.
Having been on the road for almost ten months throughout America, Canada and Europe in support of Breakfast in America, 1979's top selling album, which sold in excess of 20 million copies, producing several hit singles and went on to win two Grammy awards. For a London based band that started in 1969 and, with a new line-up, reached stardom in 1974 with the release of its third album Crime of the Century and within five years to have now reached the very pinnacle of music success, it must have felt sweet.
Performing such Supertramp favorites as “Bloody Well Right,” “The Logical Song,” “Breakfast In America,” “Goodbye Stranger,” “Asylum,” “Even In The Quietest Moments,” “Give A Little Bit,” “Dreamer,” “Rudy,” “Take The Long Way Home,” “Fool’s Overture” and others amounted to nothing short of a celebration.
Siebenberg recalls, “looking back at that period, it really was the experience of a lifetime…the best of times.”
Saxophonist Helliwell notes “those Paris shows were a definite high point for us because you could feel the audience reaction. You can actually hear the volatility in the French crowd. They sound a little mad!”
Yes unveil a robust new Super Deluxe Editionof their massively influential classic fifth album, Close To The Edge, on March 7, 2025. This definitive version comprises five CDs, one LP, and a Blu-ray Disc. A newly remastered version of the original Close to the Edge graces the first CD and LP; the Blu-ray houses 2025 mixes by Steven Wilson in Dolby ATMOS and 5.1 Mix DTS-HD MA for the very first time; Wilson’s remix and instrumentals also comprise the second CD. Rare and previously unreleased recordings are featured on the third CD, and a live show from 1972 fill the fourth and fifth CDs.
The rarities disc features rough mixes, alternate versions, and edits of staple tracks from Close to the Edge, offering another perspective on this opus. Three previously unreleased Steven Wilson tracks— “Siberian Khatru,” “Cord of Life,” and “Total Mass Retain ”— grace this collection. Meanwhile, the Live at the Rainbow, London, England, 12/16/72 recording spans two discs and captures the group in their prime while on tour supporting the album.
Setting the stage is a liver version of "Siberian Khatru" from 12/16/72)," serving as a prelude to the Super Deluxe Edition. Have a listen below.
The collection boasts liner notes penned by Syd Schwartz of Jazz & Coffee as he dives into the process and story behind the seminal Close to the Edge, reflecting the spirit at the heart of “the ultimate Yes album.” Guitarist Steve Howe shares that “Close To The Edge is Yes's most miraculous album; it has our first 20-minute epic, the template for many large-scale tracks that followed, accompanied by two ten-minute tracks, similarly recorded with the highest musical and technical integrity. Recording Fragile was an experience that enabled us to make Close To The Edge Yes's career-defining album.”
Steve Howe [guitarist], Jon Anderson [lead vocals], Chris Squire [bass], Rick Wakeman [keys, piano, organ], and Bill Bruford [drums, percussion] entered Advision in London in June 1972 to bring Close To The Edge to life alongside trusted cohort and longtime producer Eddy Offord. Together, they conjured magic with the likes of the multi-part progressive suites “Close to the Edge” and “And You and I” as well as “Siberian Khatru.” The record first landed on September 8, 1972, and vaulted into the Top 3 of the Billboard 200, going RIAA platinum.

Ian Anderson had been saying for months following the release of RökFlöte that he would embark on a new project in late 2023. He waited only a few weeks before the first notions began to solidify into some drafted words of intent and in May 2024, some unfinished music recorded earlier with John O'Hara, David Goodier and James Duncan became the starting point for the new songs as they took shape.
Writing the lyrics and melodies for all the newly written material came very quickly once he began in earnest during June and just seemed to slot right in to the musical feel and styles of the earlier recordings.
Anderson's writing here is often on a more personal level of lyric content than we are used to hearing. Interspersed with his usual observational descriptions are the slightly more heart-on-sleeve moments of soul-baring – albeit not on the topics more often paraded by the usual I-me lyric merchants of pop and rock.
Some of the songs are developed from unfinished instrumental demos made some years ago although this does not result in a huge stylistic divide to jump out at the listener. Apart from the signature flute solos and melodies, accordion, mandolin, acoustic and tenor guitars feature on several tracks too, so the subtle backdrop of acoustic and folk rock serves to remind of the Tull heritage of the 70s.

Rock And Roll Gallery is celebrating its 25th anniversary by featuring an exclusive interview with photographer Neal Preston on their “Shot Talk” YouTube channel, Preston dives into his remarkable career, from his early days in New York to becoming the official photographer for Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Bruce Springsteen, and many others. You can watch the interview below.
Titled “A Portrait of Neal Preston,” this 40-minute-plus interview offers fans and photography enthusiasts an unprecedented look behind the scenes of rock’s most iconic moments. Preston shares never-before-heard anecdotes, insights into his creative process, and reflections on the evolution of music photography. Viewers will also be treated to never-before-seen images that highlight the electrifying energy of some of the greatest superstars in rock history.
Throughout his illustrious career, Preston has had unparalleled access to the biggest names in music, capturing everything from intimate backstage moments to legendary live performances. His images have come to define rock and roll itself, and now, through this exclusive interview, fans can hear firsthand about his journey.
"We are honored to present this exclusive interview with Neal Preston, whose work has immortalized some of the most defining moments in music history," said Chris Vranian, founder of Rock and Roll Gallery. "Via his engaging storytelling, this interview reveals the incredible depth of Preston’s career, from the 70s heyday to today."
Recalls Preston about how he got to work with Led Zeppelin in 1975: “I was asked, do you still want that job with Led Zeppelin, I said yeah, and he (Danny Goldberg) said ‘get ready to go to Chicago!’ The Rolling Stones got all the press…meanwhile Led Zeppelin is eating The Rolling Stones for lunch every day…saw them both in 75 and Rolling Stones were nothing compared to Led Zeppelin.”
How to be a photographer on the road? “There was no instruction manual on how to deal with this job,” explains Preston. “Don’t act like you’re in the band because you are not. If you act like you’re in the band, the thing slipped under your door is a one-way ticket home—it ain’t going to be the room list for tomorrow.”
Looking back at his work with Queen—especially their 1985 “Live Aid” performance—Preston says: “I’m up there with Queen…and I didn’t know it was going to be the most famous 25-minute gig in history!” He adds: “Freddie Mercury’s favorite thing in the world was being Freddie Mercury!”
Rock and Roll Gallery is a one-stop online photographic wonderland for classic rock lovers, offering a treasure trove of iconic images and limited-edition prints. With the tagline “What Music Looked Like,” Rock and Roll Gallery brings together the best in music and photography, providing a visual celebration of rock’s history. Vranian calls it a place where “the History Channel meets the Biography Channel at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
Rock and Roll Gallery has also announced a contest in which one lucky entrant will win an 11 x 14 Neal Preston Queen print valued at $800.00. By “liking” and subscribing to the “Shot Talk” YouTube channel, participants can enter the contest and indicate in the comments section what their favorite Preston photo is and why. Neal will choose the winner based on what he thinks is the best response. The winner will be picked next month, on February 14, and will be notified by email from “Shot Talk.”
