John Fogerty Celebrating 80th Birthday At NYC’s Beacon Theatre

John Fogerty has announced a special concert at New York City’s Beacon Theatre taking place on his 80th birthday, May 28, 2025. Celebrating his legacy while casting his eye to the future, Fogerty will perform classic hits he recorded with Creedence Clearwater Revival, as well as on his own, backed by a band including his sons Shane and Tyler Fogerty. Tickets are on sale this Friday, April 4, and local pre-sale begins on Wednesday, April 2. Go to Ticketmaster for tickets.

The Beacon show is one of several high-profile appearances, performances, and honors planned in 2025. Fogerty kicked off the year in January with performances at the Fire Aid benefit concert in Los Angeles and a brief residency at the Wynn Encore Theater in Las Vegas. Earlier this month he appeared at SXSW for a show at Stubb’s BBQ, playing his songs, followed by a Keynote conversation with fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tom Morello.

On April 24, Fogerty will give a headlining performance at Jazz Fest in New Orleans, and just days later will be honored at the 2025 American Music Honors, hosted by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music at Monmouth University in NJ. The American Music Honors celebrate artists who have demonstrated artistic excellence, creative integrity, and a longstanding commitment to the value of music within national consciousness. The April 26 event is hosted by Brian Williams and will feature presenters Bruce Springsteen, Nils Lofgren, Patti Scialfa, and Stevie Van Zandt.

In June, Fogerty will return to Glastonbury for his first performance at the legendary festival in nearly twenty years. On July 6, he will headline the Hollywood Bowl, with more exciting news to be announced soon.

X Celebrates MLB Opening Day With New 'Wild Thing' Video, Picture Disc

To celebrate over 40 years of their rendition of “Wild Thing,” X have released a new video, narrated by singer Exene. They're also releasing a special edition 12” picture disc vinyl record of “Wild Thing,” as well as Exene’s narrated wild history of the song via Fat Possum Records on June 20.

The video behind the genesis of X’s “Wild Thing” was directed by James Blagden (the genius behind Dock Ellis & The LSD No-No).  The release comes on the heels of MLB opening day and celebration of the Los Angeles Dodgers win in the World Series in 2024. Check out the video below.

Originally released in 1984 as a non-album single, the song went on to share the screen, most famously as Charlie Sheen’s character, Ricky “Wild Thing” Vaughn, walked onto the mound, in the movie Major League. It’s continued to be used as walkout songs for professional wrestlers Atushi Onita and Jon Moxley, as well as Los Angeles Dodgers stars, Shohei Ohtani and Joe Kelly.

X continues to ride the success of their ninth and final studio album, Smoke & Fiction, released last year via Fat Possum Records. Produced by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Foo Fighters), the album debuted in the Top 10 on four Billboard charts and has been met with overwhelming praise from both critics and fans. X will perform career-spanning hits along with selections from Smoke & Fiction and their 2020 release, Alphabetland.

X On Tour

Gong's 'I See You' Celebrates 10 Years with Newly Remixed Audio Reissue

Few albums in Gong’s discography capture the band’s whimsical, irreverent take on life’s complexities and the enigma of death as vividly as 2014’s I See You. A decade later sees a brand-new 10th Anniversary Edition on Kscope, set for release on May 9th. The new edition has been remixed from the original multi-track recordings by Frank Byng, producer and sound engineer of the last four Gong albums.

This reissue celebrates not only the existential beauty of Gong’s music, but also the enduring legacy of frontman and visionary Daevid Allen, whose boundless creativity continues to resonate with fans worldwide. I See You was the final studio album featuring Daevid Allen before his passing in 2015 and stands as a testament to his vibrant spirit and revolutionary ethos. Infused with the anarchic energy that defined Gong’s origins in the 1968 Paris counterculture movement, I See You takes its place as one of the finest gems in the band’s heroic catalog.

Gong guitarist Kavus Torabi issued the following statement: “Daevid Allen's final album, I See You is such a transitional Gong record in so many ways, not that any of us realized it at the time. Work on the album had just commenced around the time I was asked to join and Daevid was in fine health but by the time we were at the mixing stage he was undergoing intense treatment for his cancer which would ultimately prove unsuccessful. As you can imagine, the record was completed under extremely fraught circumstances, very different to the upbeat way it started. Getting it over the line was not an especially joyful process. Decisions needed to be made under a great deal of pressure and, with emotions running high, they weren't always the right ones. Nonetheless, I’m so happy Daevid got to hear it completed, that he loved it and that we got to put it out into the world.

“When, during his final months, Daevid expressed his desire for the band he had assembled to continue without him we felt pretty uncertain about the prospect. Yet here we are after ten years of constant touring, three studio albums (with a fourth on the way) and a double live album later, looking back at the record which launched the current incarnation of this wonderful mythology.

“Hearing Frank Byng’s remarkable new mix, thankfully completed without time constraints, has brought an increased sonic clarity which accentuates the eccentric psychedelic majesty of the original release. I was moved to tears hearing it. For me, this is the definitive version of I See You, the record I always hoped it would be.”

For I See You, Allen was joined by his son Orlando Allen on drums, and members of the current lineup: guitarist and frontman Kavus Torabi (formerly of Cardiacs), horn player Ian East, Dave Sturt (the sonic manipulator) on bass, and the Brazilian Fabio Golfetti, weaving his own lysergic patterns on guitar. The result is an impressive, multi-layered and irrepressible world, populated with a series of dazzling musical gems - melodically rich, lyrically engaging and musically refreshed.

All-Star Tribute Album To Triumph Features Slash, Nancy Wilson, Dee Snider & Others

Triumph will be honored with a star-studded tribute album called Magic Power: All Star Tribute to Triumph. Scheduled for release on Friday, June 6, on Round Hill Records, the album features such renowned rockers as Dorothy, Sebastian Bach, Nancy Wilson, Joey Belladonna, Slash, and Jeff Keith covering classic Triumph tunes.

The 15-track album features an amazing collection of musical firepower, including drummers Kenny Aronoff and Tommy Aldridge, and guitarists Bumblefoot, Paul Gilbert, Nita Strauss.

The project was conceived by renowned producer Mike Clink, who has produced classic recordings for Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue and Whitesnake.

Magic Power will be released on CD with a 12 page booklet and as a double LP gatefold edition.

Pre-order Magic Power: All Star Tribute to Triumph

The participants are extremely honored to salute Triumph, including Phil X, who went on to say, "It is so incredible to get back to my roots with my brothers, Gil, Mike and Rik. The Triumph fans will love this!”

Enthusiastically, Journey drummer Deen Castronovo commented "Triumph was a huge influence, no Gil Moore, no Deen Castronovo singing behind a kit."

Furthermore, Sebastian Bach said, "The music of Triumph will always hold a special place in my heart. I'm super proud to pay tribute to one of my favorite bands of all time…the Rock n' Roll Machine known as TRIUMPH!"

Dee Snider recalled, "The first time I heard this song ('Lay It on the Line'), I was blown away. There's only one Rik Emmett and Triumph. I'm honored to be a part of this!"

Originally formed in 1975 and hailing from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, the trio was always proud of their Great White North roots. And seemingly ever since their inception, Triumph was on the cutting edge of technology when it came to their live show – particularly lighting, sound, and effects.

Sophisticated lasers, pyrotechnics and moving lighting rigs, all computer-controlled – Triumph was one of the first arena rock bands to incorporate all of these elements into their shows. Triumph's headlining tours were legendary, and the band was featured on many memorable stadium/outdoor shows – including the US Festival, the World Series of Rock, the American Rock Festival and Texxas Jam, Day on the Green, to name but a few.

And now, fans will be able to re-experience Triumph classics in a whole new way – via Magic Power: All Star Tribute to Triumph.

Celtic Rockers Horslips 'At The BBC' Set Announced

Few bands have left as distinct a mark on the musical landscape as Horslips. Emerging in the early 1970s, they more or less created ‘Celtic Rock,’ drawing from Irish traditional music and British/American rock, crafting a sound that was both timeless and radical.

The BBC captured the band in the 1970s and again during their unexpected Indian summer return in the 2010s. At The BBC gathers these vital recordings – spanning nearly 50 years – into one definitive collection. At The BBC will be released May 30 on Madfish

Pre-Order At The BBC

Disc 1 begins the journey in 1973–74, landmark years in which Horslips took their fusion of mythology and musicianship to the airwaves and concert halls of Britain. Included are performances from Radio 1’s In Concert, The Old Grey Whistle Test, Radio 1’s Sounds of the 70s, 2nd House (BBC 2) and Radio 1’s John Peel Show, showcasing the group in full flight, brimming with invention and zeal.

By 1979, fresh from the inevitable hard slog of trying to conquer America, Horslips returned to Radio 1’s In Concert with a set that captured their ability to fit in with the times and the power of their live performances. Disc 2 continues with an unplugged ‘comeback’ session from 2010 and a BBC NI performance in 2019 of ‘Sideways to the Sun’ – written about magical Irish beings disappearing from mortal sight – which would, perhaps fittingly, prove to be their last official recording.

Disc 3 presents Horslips’ unique 2011 performance with the Ulster Orchestra at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall, in its previously unreleased BBC Radio Ulster broadcast mix. Including epic suites from classic albums The Táin and The Book of Invasions and fan favourites like the eight-minute ‘I’ll Be Waiting’, a showcase for late guitarist Johnny Fean (d. 2023), many – including band members – view this concert as Horslips’ finest hour (and a quarter).

Disc 4 is a bonus disc, comprising recently discovered 1979 ‘working mixes’ of the album Short Stories, Tall Tales, recorded at Dublin’s Windmill Lane. They offer an intimate glimpse into a band in transition, shifting from the US FM rock that had influenced recent albums towards the spikier, sharper British New Wave sound.

At The BBC is completed by a DVD bringing together clips from The Old Grey Whistle Test, 1974 documentary material and magical fan footage of two songs from the 2011 Waterfront Hall concert, synced to sparkling BBC audio.

Presented in a deluxe hardback book package with rare photographs and extensive liner notes by band biographer Mark Cunningham, legendary BBC producer Jeff Griffin and curator Colin Harper, At The BBC is a celebration of a band whose influence still echoes through the decades. The mastering is shared by Eroc in Germany and band associate Cormac O’Kane who mastered the acclaimed 2023 Horslips box set More Than You Can Chew.

Singer & Songwriter Jesse Colin Young Passes Away

It is with deep sadness that we announce music legend Jesse Colin Young, who left a unique mark on the intersecting worlds of folk, blues, jazz, country, and rock & roll, died in his home in Aiken, South Carolina yesterday afternoon, it was announced by his wife and manager, Connie Young.

As the frontman of The Youngbloods, he immortalized the ideals of the Woodstock generation with "Get Together," an international hit that called for peace and brotherhood during the turbulent 1960s. During the decades that followed, Young expanded both his audience and his artistic range, releasing a string of solo albums that mixed socially conscious lyrics with top-tier guitar skills and gorgeous vocals.

An acclaimed songwriter, singer, instrumentalist, producer, label owner, podcast host, and longtime social/environmental activist, he has established a permanent place in America's musical landscape – while continuing to make modern music that's every bit as vital as his work during the counterculture era.

ABKCO Releases Eight Classic Rolling Stones Albums In Dolby Atmos On Streaming Platforms

ABKCO Music & Records has released six full-length albums and two EPs by The Rolling Stones in the Dolby Atmos® audio format for the first time ever. These include the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers’ The Rolling Stones EP (1964), The Rolling Stones (UK) (1964), England’s Newest Hit Makers (1964), Five by Five EP (1964), 12 X 5 (1964), The Rolling Stones No. 2 (1965), The Rolling Stones, Now! (1965), and Let It Bleed (1969). All eight titles are simultaneously available on Apple Music, TIDAL and Amazon Music.

The Rolling Stones titles are part of ABKCO’s ongoing campaign to reissue classic titles on Dolby Atmos®, starting with several releases by The Animals (The Animals, The Animals on Tour, Animal Tracks, Animalization, The Animals Retrospective), followed by Sam Cooke (Portrait of a Legend, Keep Movin’ On, Sam Cooke at the Copa, Ain’t That Good News).

It was standard industry practice in the 1960s for a recording artist’s UK and US releases to feature different track lists, often times with different album titles and/or cover art. The early catalog of The Rolling Stones was no exception. Not long after the group burst onto the scene with its unique brand of rock and roll that was heavily indebted to American blues, Decca -- their British label at the time -- released a self-titled EP, a self-titled LP and the Five by Five EP all within calendar 1964.

On this side of the Atlantic, London Records, the group’s US label, released the optimistically and prophetically-titled England’s Newest Hit Makers LP and 12 X 5 LP that same year. Filled with their versions of songs by Chuck Berry, Rufus Thomas, Willie Dixon, Bo Diddley, The Valentinos and others, these records also offered a glimpse into the brilliance of the emerging Jagger-Richards songwriting team with “Congratulations” and their first US Top 40 hit “Tell Me (You’re Coming Back)”. In early 1965, Decca issued The Rolling Stones No. 2 while London Records put out The Rolling Stones, Now! – the latter containing “Heart of Stone,” the band’s entrée into the Top 20 of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

By the end of the decade, The Rolling Stones were an international household name, but the original lineup was fracturing. Released in 1969 with identical cover art and track lists in the US and UK, Let It Bleed represents the end of the Brian Jones era (he plays autoharp on “You Got the Silver” and percussion on “Midnight Rambler”) and the beginning of the Mick Taylor era (slide guitar on “Country Honk,” guitar on “Live with Me”). Most of the acclaimed double platinum Jimmy Miller-produced album was recorded by core members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts, with contributions from outside musicians such as Ian Stewart, Nicky Hopkins, Ry Cooder, Leon Russell, Jack Nitzsche, Al Kooper, Merry Clayton and Doris Troy, among others. Let It Bleed is bookended by the evergreen Jagger-Richards songs “Gimme Shelter” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”

This fall, ABKCO Music & Records will continue rolling out titles by The Rolling Stones in Dolby Atmos®. These will include Beggars Banquet (1968), Got Live If You Want It! EP (1965), both the US and UK versions of Out of Our Heads (1965), the US and UK versions of Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) (1966) and December’s Children (And Everybody’s) (1965).

New Video Of Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers Performing 'Wild Thing' In 1982 Released

Over the last year the Tom Petty Estate has been opening their vault and sharing previously unreleased music and never-before-seen, newly remastered film from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ prolific 1982 to ’83 era. Today, the Petty Legacy archives have released their latest unearthed musical treasure, a newly restored video of Petty and the Heartbreakers performing a rollicking cover of The Troggs’ classic “Wild Thing” at the Los Angeles-based studio The Record Plant in 1982. Check it out below.

Directed by Justin Kreutzmann, the video, which boasts newly remastered audio, features footage of the band’s performance at The Record Plant, filmed for the French TV program, “Houba Houba,” alongside never-before-seen bonus footage originally captured by Cameron Crowe for his 1983 film, Tom Petty: Heartbreakers Beach Party. The film has been restored and released for the first time in more than 40 years and is now streaming on Paramount+. The new clip follows The Record Plant videos of “Keeping Me Alive,” “Finding Out” and “Stories We Could Tell.”

“Wild Thing” is one of the many highlights from the recently released Deluxe Edition of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers classic 1982 album, Long After Dark. The expanded album features the newly remastered original album from the original analog master tapes, plus 12 rediscovered bonus tracks newly mixed by Petty’s longtime engineer Ryan Ulyate and includes packaging designed by Jeri Heiden, liner notes by David Fricke, with commentary from Jimmy Iovine and Cameron Crowe and iconic archival photographs by Dennis Callahan, Neil Preston and Aaron Rappaport. The set is available in a variety of configurations, highlighted by a limited edition TomPetty.com 2LP pressing on 180-gram red with black splatter color vinyl, housed in a numbered foil tip-on jacket with an exclusive lithograph.

'One To One: John & Yoko' Coming To IMAX On April 11

One To One: John & Yoko, an expansive and revelatory inside look at John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s life in Greenwich Village in the early 1970s, features never-before-seen material and newly restored footage of John and Yoko’s only full-length concert.

Newly remixed and produced by Sean Ono Lennon and directed by Kevin Macdonald, the film is a seismic revelation that will challenge pre-existing notions of the iconic couple.

On August 30, 1972, in New York City, John Lennon played his only full-length show after leaving The Beatles, the One to One benefit concert at Madison Square Garden, a rollicking, dazzling performance from him and Yoko Ono. The documentary takes that legendary musical event and uses it as the starting point to explore 18 defining months in the lives of John and Yoko.

By 1971 the couple was newly arrived in the United States — living in a tiny apartment in Greenwich Village and watching a huge amount of American television. The film uses a riotous mélange of American TV to conjure the era through what the two would have been seeing on the screen: the Vietnam War, The Price is Right, Nixon, Coca-Cola ads, Cronkite, The Waltons.

As they experience a year of love and transformation in the US, John and Yoko begin to change their approach to protest — ultimately leading to the One to One concert, which was inspired by a Geraldo Rivera exposé they watched on TV. Filmed in a meticulously faithful reproduction of the NYC apartment the duo shared, One To One: John & Yoko offers a bold new take on a seminal time in the lives of two of history’s most influential artists.

Photo: David McClister

Grammy Award winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer John Fogerty will celebrate his 80th birthday on May 28, 2025 - a milestone marking a lifetime of groundbreaking contributions to popular music - and he plans to celebrate all year long.  As the leader of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fogerty helped shape the sound of American music, blending blues, country, pop, rockabilly, R&B, and swamp boogie into a genre-defying style that continues to resonate with fans around the world. One of the greatest songwriters of all time, he has received multiple awards and honors for his undeniable impact on the culture including induction in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the BMI Icon Award, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a special honor for his song “Centerfield” making him the only musician ever honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Fogerty kicked off his 80th birthday year in January with performances at the Fire Aid benefit concert in Los Angeles and a brief residency at the Wynn Encore Theater in Las Vegas. This week he will hit SXSW for a just-announced show at Stubb’s BBQ on March 11, followed by a Keynote conversation with fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tom Morello on March 12.

The Doors Celebrate 60th Anniversary With Apple Map Of Band’s Historic Locations, Live & Box Set Releases, Anthology Book

Continuing a year-long 60th-anniversary celebration, The Doors have unveiled a new collaboration with Apple Maps, chronicling the historic places that shaped The Doors’ music and art – from their Californian roots to their European memories. Twenty locations are included in the guide, such as the iconic Whisky a Go Go, where the band cemented its legacy and where Robby Krieger will begin a monthly legacy later this month. Additional locations include favorite restaurants and popular LA haunts like Tail O’ The Pup and Barney’s Beanery, significant recording studios, performing arts centers, venues and much more.

Users can access the Apple Maps guide by clicking though on the image below.

Earlier this year, The Doors unveiled their iconic Bright Midnight Archives live recordings on streamers for the very first time, an effort that will continue throughout 2025. These coveted concerts previously only existed physically on limited-edition LPs and CDs. The first live release in the series was Live at the Matrix 1967: The Original Masters, which showcased everything from the rip-roaring “Break On Through” to a mesmerizing rendition of “The End.” At the same time, a rare instrumental of “Summertime” proves utterly captivating, while their passion for the blues drives fluid, extended covers of “I’m A King Bee” and “Crawling King Snake.” Stay tuned throughout the year as The Doors continue to make the Bright Midnight Archives catalog available for streaming for the first time.

The Doors kicked off their 60th Anniversary last year with The Doors 1967-1971 release, a 6-LP box set part of Rhino’s acclaimed High Fidelity audiophile vinyl series, featuring all six of the band’s original studio albums cut from the original analog master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearant Audio. The vinyl was pressed at Optimal Media and the box includes a heavyweight gatefold jacket featuring rare photos and liner notes by Doors archivist David Dutkowski. Limited to 3,000 individually numbered copies, the collection quickly sold out. These sought-after audiophile titles are now available individually via thedoors.com and rhino.com

Arriving for this year’s Record Store Day festivities on April 12th, The Doors have announced Strange Days 1967: A Work in Progress, an album of rough mixes from studio sessions for The Doors’ iconic second studio album. Discovered after 58-years, this release will present the record without the final overdubs heard on the original release. “It’s time once again to visit 1967 during the recording of The Doors’ Strange Days album,” says longtime Doors engineer Bruce Botnick. “These rough mixes are of the moment since they reflect exactly what and where we were at during the recording sessions.” Set to be released in limited quantities on translucent blue vinyl at participating independent record stores.

To commemorate The Doors anniversary, their first-ever complete anthology book, Night Divides the Day, arrives on May 13th illuminating the band’s archives like never before with rare photography, intimate interviews with Robby Krieger and John Densmore, and meticulously sourced archival text from Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek. With unlimited access granted by the band, Night Divides the Day includes a unique collection of historical ephemera – including childhood photos, song lyrics, poster artwork, movie stills, and much more – which adds context to the wealth of rare photography that documents the band’s musical odyssey. Joining Krieger and Densmore are a host of contributors, with a foreword by Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and an afterword by maestro Gustavo Dudamel.  Available for pre-order now.

Members Of KISS Participate In Mini Golf Las Vegas Fundraiser

The Musical Beginning Foundation (501c3) — a newly created organization for which Grammy Award-winning musician Micki Free and fashion designer Heather Roberts serve as founders and directors — successfully wrapped its inaugural celebrity fundraising event, “The Shirts Against The Blouses” Mini Golf Tournament, at KISS World Mini Golf inside the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on February 25.

It was attended by an array of rock and roll artists, including guitarist Bruce Kulick and drummer Eric Singer of KISS, as well as the foundation’s sponsors. At the red-carpet event, The Musical Beginning Foundation Humanitarian Award was given to both KISS founders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, accepted on their behalf by Kulick.

“The Shirts Against The Blouses” Mini Golf tournament pays homage to the iconic basketball game between Prince, Eddie Murphy, Charlie Murphy, and Micki Free, which was immortalized in a famous Chappelle’s Show sketch. For a glimpse into the original game, read this story from Esquire. At KISS World Mini Golf, two teams, The Shirts and The Blouses, competed against each other and the winning team was The Blouses: Count’s 77 band, Stoney Curtis, Jeff Tortora, John Zito, Barry Barnes, and Tommy Paris.

“Heather and I were truly honored and humbled as our celebrity guests, friends and family showed up and showed out at the fundraiser!” says Free. “Heartfelt thanks to all our sponsors…this is just the beginning at The Musical Beginning Foundation, we strive to make a difference musically in kids lives!! The event was catered by Lindy Lu’s Kitchen. One highlight of the culinary feast was the blueberry mini pancakes which were based on the pancakes Prince originally made after the original pick-up basketball game with Prince, Eddie Murphy, Charlie Murphy, and Micki Free.

In many schools, art and music programs are often the first to be cut due to budget constraints. Roberts and Free believe music is not only a creative outlet, but also essential for childhood development and mental health. Participants in the event will be helping bring the power of music into the lives of children who need it most, inspiring young talent, and giving them the tools they need to thrive. “Our foundation believes that, whether using music as a therapeutic outlet or professionally, ‘Music is the Medicine,’ say Roberts and Free.

"I feel I've been blessed in my musical career,” says Micki Free, “and it's time to give back. Most indigenous, urban and impoverished families, like mine when I was growing, didn't have the means to buy instruments for their children. I was lucky my Uncle Frank came to my aid and bought me my first guitar. The Musical Beginning Foundation will be our Uncle Frank to many kids—that is our goal.”

“As a child I played clarinet in school, which was a meaningful experience for me,” says Roberts. “Art has been incredibly important to me throughout my whole life. As a graduate of Parsons School of Design in NYC, and someone who has enjoyed a career in the world of celebrity costume design, I was lucky to have been immersed into fields that allowed me to express my creativity. Children today don’t have as much access or opportunities when it comes to the arts, and I am hopeful that I can be a part of creating positive change in their lives through The Musical Beginning Foundation.”
