U2 Announces 2027 'The Greatest Show On Earth World Tour' South American Dates

 

U2 is set to hit the road again with Carnaval De Luz presents: The Greatest Show On Earth, a world tour that will see Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. return to select stadiums in 2027 and beyond.

The Greatest Show On Earth World Tour - in support of the band’s forthcoming 16th studio album Carnaval De Luz - will kick off in Mexico City on February 23rd, 2027 with support from Beck, with shows also announced for São Paulo and Buenos Aires, the only three Latin American cities the tour will visit next year. Additional 2027 dates for Europe and North America are set to be announced in the coming weeks; with plans for the band’s all-important return home to Ireland in the works.

The tour announcement comes with the release of a new track titled “The Greatest Show On Earth.” Co-written by U2 and Brian Eno, it is the third single to be taken from Carnaval De Luz. A story of lovers fighting to keep faith in each other - and faith itself. 

The video is directed by Anton Corbijn and was shot in the Californian desert; it satirizes the band as a religious cult where women do all the heavy lifting. Check it out below.

Recorded all over the place and produced by Jacknife Lee, Carnaval De Luz is a collection of 12 songs exploring themes of spirituality, friendship, freedom and endurance in the face of dark, encroaching forces. Sonically, there are echoes of the band’s most experimental work combined with some strict songwriting in the shape of “The Greatest Show On Earth,” “Glorify,” and “Midnight Sunshine,” as well as the homage to early surf-punk insolence that is “Silencio.”

The roots of Carnaval De Luz can be traced directly to U2’s two surprise-released and critically acclaimed six-track EPs of early 2026, recorded during the same creative period as the new album. Those releases, Days of Ash and Easter Lily, followed the liturgical calendar, and so Carnaval De Luz sits, stands and dances before them in timeline. Carnival, a celebration of the flesh, “carne,” before the denial that is Lent, a period of reflection, and the rebirth of Easter. The song connecting the album and two EPs is the final track on the new album, “Torn,” a duet between Bono and the late, great Dolly Parton, in what has sadly turned out to be her last recorded vocal performance. Co-written by U2, Parton and Johnny McDaid, it’s a tender country song detailing broken family ties that holds wider resonances.

Carnaval De Luz is being released in the band’s 50th year, 2026, one in which U2 will have released 24 new songs. The album also sees collaborations from Brian Eno (co-writing and synthesizers on “Go (Carnaval De Luz),” “The Greatest Show on Earth,” and “Can’t Stop Us Now”), Martin Garrix (co-writing on “Glorify”), and Daniel Lanois (playing pedal steel on “Torn”); with additional production from Ryan Tedder on “Silencio.”

Carnaval De Luz, the sixteenth studio album from U2 and the first album of new material from the band in nine years, will be released on November 13th, 2026, on Interscope Records.

Phish To Play 100th Madison Square Garden Show

 

Phish returns to Madison Square Garden this winter for a four-night New Year’s run, December 30 – January 2, culminating with the band’s 100th performance at The Garden on January 2, 2027. 

To mark the milestone, Phish today premiered a new video celebrating the longtime Madison Square Garden employees who have been part of the band’s shows there over the years. Told through the memories and experiences of ushers, bartenders, concession and merchandise staff, and others, the video reflects on decades of Phish shows through the eyes of the people who have welcomed the band and its fans year after year. Phish first took the stage at Madison Square Garden on December 30, 1994. In the 32 years since, The Garden has become an enduring part of the band’s history, hosting some of Phish’s most memorable performances and traditions – from 17 New Year’s Eve celebrations to 2017’s Baker’s Dozen, the unprecedented 13-show run during which the band performed 237 songs with no repeats. This past summer, Phish returned to MSG for five nights celebrating music from the band’s early and mid-90s era, bringing their total to 96 performances at the arena.

Jean-Michel Jarre Announces 'Oxygene' 50th Anniversary Edition

 

Jean-Michel Jarre has announced a special 50th anniversary edition of his landmark album Oxygene, to be released on November 20, 2026 via BMG. Originally released in France in 1976 before its international release in 1977, Oxygene helped bring electronic music to a global audience and established Jarre as one of the defining figures of the genre. Recorded in the former kitchen of his Paris apartment using an eight-track tape machine, a homemade mixing desk and a small collection of synthesisers and electronic instruments, the album went on to sell more than 18 million copies worldwide.

At the heart of the anniversary edition is a new 2026 remaster of the original stereo mix, created from the original tapes to restore the full dynamics and character of the recording.

The Dolby Atmos version was mixed by David Kosten, Steven Wilson and Jarre for Distant Swimmer, the new immersive-audio partnership between Kosten and Wilson, with Oxygene its first project. Bringing together Kosten’s extensive work in Atmos and as a multi-award winning producer and mixer, and Wilson’s experience as a six-time Grammy nominee, Porcupine Tree founder and spatial-audio pioneer, the team preserved the balance and distinctive tape-echo character of the original stereo mix while allowing the album to breathe in three-dimensional space.

The release includes a 180g black-vinyl edition, half-speed mastered and cut by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios; CD; limited-edition coloured eco-vinyl; digital editions; and a deluxe Blu-ray mediabook featuring Oxygene in Dolby Atmos for the first time, alongside a new 5.1 mix, the 2026 stereo remaster and selected archival material.

“When I created Oxygene, I was working directly with analogue instruments and tape, and the sound had a particular depth, movement and life of its own. For this anniversary edition, we returned to the original tapes with the aim of preserving that character rather than changing it,” Jarre says.

Five decades after its release, Oxygene continues to resonate across generations of artists and listeners. The anniversary edition features new liner notes from Alexis Petridis (The Guardian) who recalls Oxygene sounding like “a curious transmission from the future” when it entered the British singles chart in 1977. “Oxygene wasn’t just an exceptionally good album,” he writes. “It was an album that felt like a strange kind of culmination, on which Jean-Michel Jarre managed to capture and tie together every extant aspect of electronica into 40 minutes of music.”

Alma Rota (Rolling Stone France) writes: “The record becomes image, concert, architecture, landscape. It ceases to be merely a recorded object and becomes a universe that every era reinvents. Formats change. Technologies evolve. The landscape remains.”

And German writer Torsten Groß, writes: “The foundation for this unique career was laid in that kitchen — with a broken Mellotron and ideas for eternity.”

The anniversary edition also marks an extended partnership between Jean-Michel Jarre and BMG, encompassing his recorded catalogue and future works. Jarre is currently in the studio working on new music, with further details to be announced. Alistair Norbury, Senior Creative Advisor at BMG, says: “Jean-Michel Jarre has influenced generations of electronic artists and continues to shape the culture today. Electronic music has deep European roots and continues to evolve globally. This partnership reflects our shared long-term commitment to that legacy and a creative vision for what comes next.”

The release arrives in a major year that will also see Jarre appear on October 21 as Guest of Honour at Amsterdam Dance Event, where he will present the sold-out immersive concert Oxygene & Beyond: A Sonic Journey Celebrating 30 Years Of Ade at AFAS Live. His wider ADE program will also include three exclusive panel discussions at ADE Pro, bringing together the history of electronic music with the ideas, emerging technologies - including AI - and artists shaping its future.

It also follows the publication of Machines: A History Of Electronic Music (November 24, Thames & Hudson). Drawing on Jarre’s exceptional collection of electronic and electro-acoustic instruments, the book presents 130 machines, specially photographed, that trace more than a century of electronic music, from the first electrified machines of the early 20th century to artificial intelligence algorithms. When Yes first began sketching out ideas for what would become the process was loose and exploratory. There was no preconceived concept at the start, just a collection of musical fragments that gradually began to find one another and take form. Among these early sketches was a piece titled “Aurora,” and it quickly became clear that the name carried certain gravity. It suggested light, emergence, and a sense of vastness, qualities that resonated deeply with the band. Jon Davison remembers how “the title immediately resonated with Steve Howe and sparked visual inspiration for artist Roger Dean, setting a conceptual tone that would guide the project.”

Work on Aurora began almost as soon as the ‘Classic Tales of Yes’ tour ended in 2024. The idea of a new album surfaced quickly and with the label’s encouragement, the band had the time to develop material organically. Rather than gathering in a single studio for months, they embraced a modern workflow; ideas were born in home studios, shaped independently, and then woven together through constant collaboration. Downes and Howe often acted as the central creative axis, with Howe, as producer, serving as the point through which all ideas eventually flowed.

Across Aurora, each track carries its own character. Some echo the classic approach, others push into new territory, but together they form a cohesive whole that honors the band’s heritage while embracing forward motion. 'Ronnie Wood: The Jimi Hendrix Portraits' Launches At Handel Hendrix House In London

 

Ronnie Wood: The Jimi Hendrix Portraits features two new, unseen original portraits of Jimi Hendrix in his flat on Brook Street by Ronnie Wood alongside prints of much-loved paintings inspired by photographs of Hendrix. They're all on display for the first time in Hendrix’s own home at 23 Brook Street, Mayfair, now the Handel Hendrix House museum, from Wednesday, September 30 through Sunday, April 11, 2027. 

"Without doubt it’s an honor and an absolute delight to be unveiling my two new portraits of Jimi Hendrix along with five other works capturing Jimi in action at the Handel-Hendrix House in Mayfair," Wood said in a statement. "There couldn’t be a better location to have an exhibition and display my work than Jimi’s house in London’s Brook Street."

The Rolling Stones guitarist recalls meeting Hendrix fir the first time. “I first met Jimi in 1966 when he first arrived in London, totally unknown at the time. We shared a flat together for a little while in Holland Park and became friends. It wasn’t long before he stunned us all with those outstanding first performances especially one at the Bag of Nails club in Soho. I’ve created the moment I witnessed the great man on stage in one of the paintings to be exhibited. Jimi’s immense and unique talent took guitar playing to another planet and I hope the paintings capture all that and more."

As Simon Daniels, Director of Handel Hendrix House explains: "At Handel Hendrix House, our aim is to celebrate Jimi Hendrix's life, music and influence by opening up his London home on Brook Street, with live music and through our collections. Handel Hendrix House cares for and presents to the public the homes of two of the greatest musicians ever to have lived in London. George Frideric Handel lived at 25 Brook Street from 1723 until his death in 1759. It was here that Handel wrote and rehearsed his greatest works, including Messiah and its ever popular ‘Hallelujah chorus’ – perhaps the most famous piece of classical music ever written.  His stirring anthem ‘Zadok the Priest’, was also written in Brook Street and has accompanied the coronation of every British monarch since George II (for whom it was written in 1727), including HM King Charles III.

In 1968, Jimi Hendrix moved into an adjoining flat at number 23. Here, in the only place he said he felt truly at home, Hendrix entertained, inspired, and collaborated with other icons of British 60s rock music.

Handel Hendrix House has completed a £3 million project to open all of Handel’s house to the public for the first time by restoring the basement and ground floor by faithfully recreated Handel’s basement kitchen with all its fixtures and fittings, carefully detailed on research and an inventory made shortly after the composer’s death. 

 

Also

- Restored the ground floor parlors in which Handel would receive his guests and aristocratic patrons and in which his assistant, J.C. Smith, would sell tickets and subscriptions to new works.  

- Restored the front façade of 25 Brook Street so that visitors can finally enter Handel’s home through his front door.

 

New things to see in Handel’s house include:

- Historic rooms presented as they might have been in the 1740s, when the composer was in a new burst of creative energy and commercial success writing dramatic oratorios.

- Recently acquired works of art, creating a collection representative of the more than 100 works of art Handel owned in Brook Street.

- New exhibitions about Handel’s music and the musicians he worked with and a mixed reality audio-visual display about the writing of Messiah in the very room in which it was composed.

 

In 2016, Jimi Hendrix’s flat in 23 Brook Street was brilliantly restored and opened to the public. To be enjoyed as a contrasting and complementary part to a visit to Handel’s home, the Hendrix experience at Handel Hendrix House has been expanded as part of the Hallelujah Project:

 

- For the first time, visitors can walk up and down the stairs to his flat, where George Harrison famously had to step over one of Jimi’s other visitors who had passed out en route to the exit.

- A new exhibition features a film showing visitors exploring Hendrix’s legendary guitar technique and his influence on musicians and creatives, with high quality sound supported by Bang & Olufsen

- The film includes material uncovered by Handel Hendrix House through their national ‘Your Experience’ appeal for memories, images and stories of people’s encounters with Jimi Hendrix across the country.

Rod Stewart Announces Retirement From The Road

According to numerous reports and the man himself, Rod Stewart is ending his touring career. 

The singer-songwriter, 81, has announced his The Final Encore Tour for 2027, weeks after he canceled his upcoming shows following a heart procedure.

“Ladies and gentlemen, after much deliberation and sadness, I have to announce next year will be my last tour ever, ever, ever,” Stewart began in a video message shared on Instagram on Monday, Sept. 28. “I’m not retiring, but this will be the last rock and roll tour.”

He continued, “I wanna thank you for everything you’ve given me, and hopefully I’ve given you something in return,” before taking to his piano and singing, “Please come out and see me on the tour. It’s gonna be great!”

In the caption, Stewart added, “Well, here we go… one last time! Come and see me on my The Final Encore Tour for one more round of rock ‘n’ roll. I’m really looking forward to it.”

The 21-date tour will begin in Dublin on April 23, before five shows in Stewart’s native U.K., including a date in his home city of London. Synth-pop singer Howard Jones is set to support Stewart on this run of concerts.

The “Maggie May” star will then head to mainland Europe for the remaining 15 shows across May, June and July, ending the tour in Hannover, Germany, on July 24.

Though the tour will only take Stewart around Europe, he also recently announced a handful of U.S. shows. In March, he’ll play Georgia and Florida, before two Colorado shows in September, bookending his The Final Encore Tour.

Last month, Stewart’s team shared on Instagram, the day after he postponed a Cincinnati show, that he had undergone a “routine coronary stent procedure” and was “doing very well,” but that his Las Vegas residency dates later that month and his September tour dates would be canceled.

Earlier this month, his wife, model Penny Lancaster, opened up about her husband’s recent health challenges on an episode of the At Home with Vanessa podcast.

Stewart, who paused a concert in Utah in June to use an oxygen mask backstage after nearly fainting, found out later that he had an “underlying heart issue,” Lancaster, 55, told host Vanessa Feltz.

She said her husband had also experienced “a couple of instances where he had an upper respiratory infection,” explaining that he’d performed at a venue with “very high altitude, so it would affect anybody.”

Fortunately, doctors caught his heart problem at the right time. “They detected a slight blockage which needed a stent, which, according to a lot of research, it appears most people over the age of 65 will often need and require a stent,” Lancaster said.

Gibson Partners With Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival

 

Gibson has partnered with Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival for its highly anticipated return to Texas on September 26 and 27, 2026, at the Moody Center in Austin. Featuring Eric Clapton, Gary Clark Jr., Buddy Guy, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Trey Anastasio, Joe Bonamassa, and more. The two-day festival will unite generations of celebrated guitarists, including an all-star roster of Gibson signature artists featuring Joe Bonamassa, Gary Clark Jr., Billy Gibbons, Sierra Hull, Marcus King, and Keb’ Mo’, representing a wide range of musical styles and generations. Beyond the performances onstage, Gibson will be on the ground throughout the weekend with an immersive festival booth offering fans hands-on access to guitars, exclusive product experiences, photo opportunities, and more.

Throughout the weekend, festivalgoers can visit the Gibson festival booth, where more than 30 Gibson and Epiphone instruments and MESA/Boogie amplifiers will be on display and available to plug in and play. The festival booth will give fans the opportunity to experience the instruments firsthand and connect with Gibson at one of the world’s premier celebrations of guitar music.

The Gibson booth will also offer a world-first preview of the forthcoming Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom Eric Clapton 1964 ES-335 TDC Reissue, scheduled for release in summer 2027. Inspired by Clapton’s original 1964 Gibson ES-335, the new model celebrates one of the most recognizable and historically significant guitars associated with his career.

Fans at the festival will be able to enter for the opportunity to win one of the Eric Clapton signature guitars when the model launches in 2027. Festivalgoers can take their place atop the celebrated Gibson Guitar Throne, a striking installation constructed from 100 real electric guitar bodies and necks that has been exhibited at music events around the world. Attendees can have their photo taken on the throne for the opportunity to be featured across Gibson’s social media channels.

The seventh Crossroads Guitar Festival will celebrate the 28th anniversary of Crossroads Centre Antigua, the treatment and education facility founded in 1998 to support individuals affected by alcohol and substance dependency, as well as their families. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Celebrate 50th Anniversary With 'Origins 1971-1978' Box Set

The Tom Petty Estate has shared a comprehensive new box set, Origins 1971-1978, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Petty & The Heartbreakers, out November 6 via UMe. Digging into the vaults, this collection traces the sonic formation of the band in the white-hot 70s era, and features collaborations with legendary artists Al Kooper, Leon Russell, Jim Gordon, Emory Gordy and more, across country, folk, punk, reggae, rock and soul originals.

The announcement arrives ahead of tonight’s Americana Awards, where Petty and the Heartbreakers will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. The original members of the Heartbreakers, Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Stan Lynch and Ron Blair, will open the show with a special reunion performance alongside Grammy-winning superstar Chris Stapleton. Heartbreakers Steve Ferrone and Scott Thurston will join for a final song.

Origins 1971-1978 will be available in three configurations: a five-LP box set, a four-CD box set and an uber deluxe edition, each with Blu-ray and DVD. The centerpiece of the vinyl editions is an 88-page fanzine featuring liner notes by David Fricke and Bud Scoppa, track-by-track annotations from the original band, complete album credits for the first two albums and a trove of unearthed archival photos and memorabilia, alongside polaroids, postcards, collectibles and more.

At the heart of the collection is No Sleep Til L.A., which will be available as a stand-alone LP, CD and limited-edition Zoetrope. More than a rarities compilation, it is a 12-track document of Tom Petty becoming Tom Petty — tracing the years between Mudcrutch's earliest recordings and the formation of the Heartbreakers as he searched for the right players, the right sound and ultimately the right band.

Spanning recordings from Miami to Tulsa to Los Angeles, the album follows the band's journey from their first-ever studio session at Criteria Studios in 1971, through the formative Tulsa sessions where Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Stan Lynch and Ron Blair learned to make records, and into Los Angeles, where it all finally clicked into place. It captures a singer, songwriter, and bandleader in rapid development, growing more assured with each session. Seven of the twelve tracks have never been released before. Five more tracks appear here in new, hi-res mixes. The LP will also be available in a limited edition “Galaxy" color variant. A Zoetrope version of the record will be available on November 20.

In a special preview of the collection, “Parade of Loons,” a previously unheard Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers track that takes you back to 1978, is out now. Origins 1971–1978 includes metallic limited-edition versions of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ debut album and their 1978 follow-up, You’re Gonna Get It!.

Each track has been newly mixed and remastered from the original multi-track tapes, including 50th-anniversary editions of the band's first two albums, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and You're Gonna Get It!, by longtime producer and engineer Ryan Ulyate. Both editions feature extended versions of eleven tracks, including “American Girl” and “Breakdown.”

The additional discs trace the earliest chapters of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, deep from the family’s vault. A musical diary of the band's Gainesville roots through their cross-country move to Los Angeles and into their first taste of success.

Live from the Record Plant 1977 features a highly sought-after, fan-favorite broadcast, now released in its entirety for the first time. Recorded for San Francisco's KSAN-FM at the Record Plant in Sausalito, this high-fidelity recording captures the band’s intense energy even during their early period, including a guest appearance by the legendary Al Kooper.

The Cut Out Bin continues the exploratory spirit of No Sleep Til L.A., gathering five tracks that show Petty working as a solo artist alongside session musicians—including a yacht rock track with Leon Russell—before ultimately concluding that the Heartbreakers were the right vehicle for his songs. More experimental than the band's later work, the tracks offer a rare look at the road not taken.

The set closes with the band's 1978 performance on the BBC’s The Old Grey Whistle Test in the UK, where Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers first broke through internationally. The audio has been restored by Ryan Ulyate and is now available for the first time in high definition. 

BBC host Bob Harris, who wrote an essay for the Blu-ray booklet, shares: “[It was] one of the greatest performances we had ever seen by a band at the top of their game. They played music from another planet to a room packed with manic fans, in one of the most iconic venues in the world. It was an experience so powerful that five decades later we could still remember every chord, every song, every solo.”

The DVD captures the band's live performance on the BBC program The Old Grey Whistle Test, and a Blu-ray disc featuring the complete collection of all 51 songs in high-res stereo, Atmos and 5.1 immersive mixes rounds out the set.

Sir Cliff Richard Announces 48th Studio Album

  

Today, 67 years after scoring his very first number one with The Drifters with "Living Doll," Sir Cliff Richard has announced the release of his 48th studio album Only Number Ones, featuring 12 of his personal favorite chart-toppers from The Beatles to Harry Styles. 

Releasing November 27th, the new album sees Richard put his unique stamp on classic and contemporary Number Ones spanning eight decades. A deluxe edition will also bring together all 14 of Cliff Richard’s original classic Number One singles.

With each of his last five albums reaching the top five in the UK official album charts could Only Number Ones give Cliff Richard another number one album to celebrate his 86th birthday year?

Carefully selecting 12 of his favorite Number One tracks by artists such as The Beatles, The Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley and Harry Styles, the album was produced by Sam Hollander and Josh Edmondson and recorded in February this year. 

“I suggested to Warner Music that I record an album of songs that made it to No.1," Richard says. "Thank heavens they agreed!! I listened to dozens of songs and chose 12 of my favorites. This record is my tribute to fabulous artists who had recorded wonderful tracks that achieved the number one position." 

In full celebration of Number Ones, the album will also be released as a Deluxe Edition featuring all of Cliff Richard’s 14 original Number One tracks from 1959’s "Living Doll" through "Bachelor Boy," "The Young Ones," "Summer Holiday," "Congratulations," "We Don’t Talk Anymore" and more including his three Christmas Number Ones "Mistletoe and Wine," "Saviours Day" and 1999’s "The Millennium Prayer."

Joe Satriani And Steve Vai Unite for 'The Sea Of Emotion' Album, Out November 6th

 

After more than five decades of friendship, musical exchange and separate careers that helped redefine what the electric guitar could do, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai have finally made a record together. The Sea Of Emotion, the first studio album from SatchVai, will be released November 6, 2026 via earMUSIC. The announcement arrives alongside the release of “Mayhem,” the album’s blistering new single is out now. Have a listen below.

The story began in 1973, when 13-year-old Steve Vai began taking guitar lessons from his 17-year-old teacher, Joe Satriani, in Long Island. Neither could have known where that shared obsession with the guitar would lead. More than 50 years later, after establishing themselves as solo artists and sharing stages around the world through the legendary G3 tours, they have brought their musical histories together on one album.

“We’ve been planning this since 1973,” Vai says with a laugh. “Just unconsciously.”

The album came together after a G3 reunion tour created an unexpected opening in their schedules. What began as a suggestion to record a single track quickly expanded when Satriani sent Vai two finished pieces, “The Sea of Emotion, Part 1” and “Part 2.” Vai knew immediately that the time had come.

 

The process was anything but predictable. Although the two musicians share a deep musical history, similar influences and a lifelong understanding of the guitar, they discovered that they write very differently. That contrast became one of the defining elements of the record, with ideas moving back and forth as the songs took unexpected turns.

“The biggest surprise was that we write in completely different ways,” Satriani explains. “And that’s what made the project so fun and interesting.”

The album brings together two musicians who have spent decades developing unmistakable individual voices, while giving each the freedom to push the other somewhere new. Producer and keyboardist Eric Caudieux helped keep the process honest, while a formidable group of longtime collaborators supplied the rhythm section, including drummers Gregg Bissonette, Jeremy Colson, Kenny Aronoff, Matt Chamberlain and Mike Mangini, and bassists Billy Sheehan, Bryan Beller, Philip Bynoe, Matt Bissonette, Marco Mendoza and Henrik Linder.

Across The Sea Of Emotion, SatchVai move from the raw rock ’n’ roll of “Mayhem” and “Bronco Freight Train” to the darker, cinematic “Old Sins Have Long Shadows,” the unruly swing of “Zoot Suit Riot” and the arena-sized “I Wanna Play My Guitar,” featuring singer Glenn Hughes.

At the center of the album is the three-part “The Sea of Emotion” suite, which reaches back to the Carle Place school field where the two teenage musicians once spent time dreaming about music. “The Sea of Emotion, Part 3” even begins with a vintage reel-to-reel recording from one of Vai’s early lessons with Satriani, a glimpse of two young guitarists still searching for their voices.

“It illustrates just how far we’ve come,” Satriani says. “We’re these two kids who haven’t found our sound yet, but we’ve got enthusiasm. We’re chasing something, and we’re determined.”

For Vai, the album ultimately represents something more personal than a meeting of two celebrated guitarists.

“That’s when I really feel, like, wow, we really did it,” he says. “It’s a beautiful coming together of me and my friend in a very intimate musical way. That was the reason we did the record.”
